Vaticinor is a body of work created by Kim V. Goldsmith for the Regional Futures project in 2022-23, that have since been presented in various formats including an exhibition, a soundwalk, on radio, in a music festival performance, online talks and editorials. This page documents some of the feedback and responses to the work. The concepts developed for the Vaticinor were commissioned by Dubbo Regional Council’s Cultural Development team and Orana Arts for Regional Futures and included four residency sites across NSW over six months. The Manning Regional Art Gallery exhibition was negotiated for the artists in a cross-region conversation between Orana Arts and Mid North Coast arts. The Vaticinor works have now been selected to be presented with those of other Regional Futures artists at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre from mid-June 2023. As the lead artist, Kim has now secured an exhibition for seven Regional Futures artists at The Basil Sellers Exhibition Centre in late 2024.
This body of work was developed with commission funds from Dubbo Regional Council, support from Orana Arts, a Quick Response grant from Create NSW, and an exhibition fee from Manning Regional Art Gallery.
MORE ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE WORK
Exhibition, Manning Regional Art Gallery, Taree, 23 March – 13 May 2023, group exhibition – Kim V. Goldsmith, Ronnie Grammatica, Allison Reynolds and Kit Kelen
The exhibition was received very well, with mixed reactions with each of the works in the show. We did get a few comments of ‘Is this art?’ which is a great conversation starter. Your work had a lot of positive responses, with audiences connecting to soundscapes, storytelling and technology. The haptic hands worked well, with staff and volunteers encouraging visitors to engage with them, as many people were unsure about what would happen when they touched them. Social media helped with telling the story, and we had many visit after seeing your work online. We had 1399 visitors to the show which was great.

“It was a fantastic experience Kim. Not just seeing the flying foxes heading off but also learning about the multiple layers of sound around us, even in trees and underground. Fascinating. I’m so glad I had the opportunity to attend. Thank you!” – Jennifer Catt

We are very pleased to inform you that your piece, (Sitting with) the Discomfort of Change has been accepted for publication on the Mona Blog!
We feel the incredibly important content it deals with, coupled with the tone and language of the piece would be excellent to engage our online readership in the conversation of a post-carbon economy and what that looks like for country communities.
Kat Vella (Australia), Non-fiction Editor, Mona Magazine
Congratulations on your blog post this week. Very interesting – I’ve already had a few people comment on this being an issue they’ve never thought about before.
